Funding
The Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust is an independent charitable trust which generates the majority of its operating income through its charitable and related trading activities.
During the year to March 2006, the Trust’s operating expenditure totalled £3.25 million, of which £2.7 million was funded through earned income and the remainder by grants from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and MLA / Renaissance South East in support of its museum, conservation and education programmes.
In addition the Trust invested approximately £0.5 million in The Historic Dockyard through a number of individual grant-funded programmes including the restoration of No 1 Smithery, other repair conservation and interpretive works to the site’s historic buildings and ships, and education and other visitor-related activities.
