Introduction

HMS Ocelot in dry dock at The Historic Dockyard Chatham, 2006

Chatham Dockyard and the Submarine Service 1907-1984

The Royal Dockyard at Chatham built submarines for the Royal Navy from 1907 until 1962; a further three submarines were built for the Royal Canadian Navy during the 1960s. This exhibition tells the story of these 57 submarines both in times of war and peace from the moment their keels were laid until their final commission.  The above images shows HMS Ocelot, the final submarine built for the Royal Navy at Chatham Dockyard in 1962, in dry dock at The Historic Dockyard Chatham, 2006.

This Submarine exhibition is presented with supporting PDFs which can be viewed from the right hand side links on this page.
