3 Slip - The BIG Store

New attraction! 3 Slip - The BIG Store

3 Slip - The BIG Store

Explore our new BIG museum store of really BIG ‘things’ from the collections of The Historic Dockyard and the Royal Engineers Museum, Gillingham and appreciate why size matters!

See a Midget submarine, boats (large and small), giant tools and steam machinery and a collection of vehicles. Then look out for Kitchener’s Railway Carriage, the D Day locomotive ‘Overlord’, massive bridge-building machinery mine-clearance equipment and a huge Chieftain AVRE Tank.

3 Slip - The BIG Store Most important of all, don’t miss the building itself! It is one of Britain’s architectural gems. When built in 1838 this immense covered slip was Europe’s largest wide span timber structure. When fully open you’ll be able to take the lift or stairs to the mezzanine floor to discover the real grandeur of its incredible roof.
