Medway
Medway is steeped in history. As well as the maritime heritage there’s military history on show at the Royal Engineers Museum| and the fortresses of Rochester Castle|, Upnor Castle| and Fort Amherst| / Fort Amherst Heritage Centre|, both Upnor Castle and Fort Amherst being built to defend the Dockyard.

Rochester Cathedral| (pictured left) is England’s second oldest cathedral and has been a place of pilgrimage for over 1,400 years. Both Rochester and Chatham have literary and personal links with Charles Dickens and his family. The new Dickens World| opens in 2007 at Chatham Maritime adjacent to The Historic Dockyard. Others attractions include the Guildhall Museum| and Restoration House| in Rochester and the Brook Pumping Station| in Chatham.
