Sunday 8th July - Tour de France

Special Notice

If you are considering visiting on Sunday 8th July please note the following:
  1. On Sunday 8th July 2007 the first stage of the Tour de France route will be coming through Medway.  The race starts in Greenwich, then the race makes its way through Erith, Dartford and Gravesend and into Strood, through the Medway Tunnel and into Gillingham, Chatham and Rochester en route to a finish in Canterbury.
  2. The Historic Dockyard will be isolated for some of the day due to road closures, although pedestrians will have access.
  3. The Medway Tunnel (A289) will be closed from the night before.
  4. General road closures on the route take effect from 7.30am with scheduled re-opening around The Historic Dockyard about 1.30pm
  5. The race routing is being organised by Medway Council and full details of the route can be found here| or calling Medway Council on 01634 306000 or the Visitor Information Centre on 01634 843666.
  6. The Historic Dockyard will open but it will be easier for you to get to us in the afternoon
